Happy Monday and first day of July!
I just got back from my first class of my second summer session at NVCC: Microeconomics. It was a class of 6 people. Smaller than my last by 20 or so, but no size comparison to VT classes. LOL. The professor seems pretty easygoing and is from the same country as my last session’s professor, Ghana. He received his doctorate in France, so his accent is a little tricky to pick through, but I think I’ll be able to manage.
This morning started out with a nice run. I left at 6:15 AM and arrived home around 6:50 AM. Ever since my friend Bong started running with me, I’ve been running along that main road, that very out-in-the-open main road. Motivation is what I call it.
I believe that a little audience never hurt anyone. I personally perform better when other people are watching. Maybe it’s my competitive cheerleading background, but who doesn’t love putting on a little show? And yes, you must want to push hard for yourself, but sometimes that extra attention helps a little too.
- 3 miles (steady)
- 250 ab exercises (sets of 25)
- 30 Perfect Push Up presses (3 sets of 10)
- 2 planks (1 minute each- 15 sec b/w)
After the usual egg sandwich, I made a “smoothie” using the new Vanilla Almondilla Vega Smoothie powder. Vega is a vegan health food brand, hence the name, so I felt all cool pretending I was vegan for a second. Then I realized I added greek yogurt to thicken it…
This mix is fortified with 2 servings of veggies, which would explain the greenish mix color (woot woot for veggies in the morning!). It tasted pretty yummy. I added greek yogurt, almond milk, a shot of coffee, cinnamon and 2 ice cubes to mine.
So today, I thought I would show you some of the music I’ve been listening to; during workouts, but also some chill tunes.
I know for me, and most, if not all fitness junkies out there, music is so crucial to achieving what you want out of your work out. It seems to lay the groundwork and also serve as a little cheerleader that helps you push that much harder.
Depending on the type of work out, it can get technical with the BPMs needing to be adequately matched to the pace of the movements, but for running purposes, it’s just gotta get me going. Now spin class is another story…
Check out my favorite spin instructor’s VT Club Cycle open facebook group and all his EDM favorites that he uses for classes!
Music also needs to be fresh. I don’t know about you, but I get sick of music in like 2 seconds. I am constantly recycling my work out playlists and trying to find new songs to re-inspire me.
Current work out playlist:
- Release Me– Agnes
- Bang Bang– Will.I.Am.
- I’m a Machine– David Guetta
- Dirty Orchestra– Black Violin
- What About Us– The Saturdays
- Let It Roll– Flo Rida
- 300 Violin Orchestra– Jorge Quintero
- ‘Till I Collapse– Eminem
- Spontaneous Me– Lindsey Stirling
Current chill tunes:
- Chasin Echoes– The Lonely Biscuits
- Crooked Smile– J. Cole
- Classic– MKTO
- Hung Up– Hot Chelle Rae
- Ready or Not– Bridgit Mendler
- Stay With Me (Acoustic)- You Me At Six
- Fader– The Temper Trap
- Gone, Gone, Gone- Philip Philips
Oh and I just whipped this up mid-post because I was getting a little haaangry. We all know what that’s like.
Remember the Citrus Garlic Shrimp my mom made the other night? They’ve resurfaced.
I grabbed a whole wheat tortilla, laid out a bed of cherry tomato slices, plopped on some of that tasty shrimp with its decadent sauce, and sprinkled a bit of mozzarella cheese and basil leaves on it.
It was a little messy, but delicious nonetheless. It reminded me a lot of Cabo Fish Taco for all those Hokies reading!
What are some of the songs you’ve been listening to lately?
It’s back to the books for me now! Hope to see you all very soon! 😉
